Beta

From Toontown Rewritten Wiki

Beta was the second development stage of Toontown Rewritten after Alpha and before Live where only players with access to an Alpha key and Beta key could play the game, which launched on May 17, 2014,[1] and ended on September 1, 2017, while transitioning from "Semi-Open Beta" to "Open Beta" in the process.

Pre-Beta

Pre-Beta was the first version of Toontown Rewritten before the game was released for a public Beta test, exclusively available to the Toontown Rewritten Team. Joey uploaded two YouTube videos showing gameplay footage of Toontown Rewritten in a pre-Beta stage.[2][3] Maya also uploaded a YouTube video showing gameplay footage of Toontown Rewritten in a pre-Beta stage where she completed some ToonTasks.[4]

Semi-Open Beta and Open Beta

Semi-Open Beta

Semi-Open Beta was the third to last stage of Toontown Rewritten's overall Beta test where players could visit the website, and use the PlayLine or schedule a PlayTime session to play Toontown Rewritten for three hours, both of which were introduced in celebration of Toontown Online's 11th anniversary on June 2, 2014. [5] PlayTime sessions were eventually increased to six hours after Quadruple Access Weekend on August 6, 2014.[6] Beta keys were still required in order to play the game indefinitely.

Open Beta

Open Beta was the final stage of Toontown Rewritten's overall Beta test where players could play the game without the need of a Beta key. Toontown Rewritten opened to all players on September 19, 2014, which was also the day that ToonFest 2014 occurred.[7]
